blog a thon

OK here is alittle catching up... I have some one home from school either sick or with some mystery rash everyday for the last 2 weeks. So here are a few pics of the other stuff we've been up to lately.

One night we got ready for bed and couldn't find Trevin, you can't tell int he picture but he is kinda between the wall and the beanbag. I guess he fell asleep watching the kids play wii. And yes, that is a tissue in his nose....
This next one is Layne...long story short, when we bought the tire store the previous owners left this little dirt bike but it didn't run. So yes we told Layne if he could get it running AND buy his own helmet he could ride it around the yard. Well, don't tell Layne something you don't mean. It may have taken almost 3 years but with the help of his dad and lots of hours sweeping the shop and hauling tires he is the proud owner of a cool little dirt bike. This was Layne's first year wrestling with the Jr.High team. Here he is at State, he took 5th place! Good Job Bud!!
Here is Nichole in her new dance uniform. She will compete the end of this month and is really excited. Shandi should get her uniform next week. I will post a picture.

a new website

So I was clickety clicking around this morning and found this website called www.hillbillyhousewife.com it has cheap ways to cook and feed your family. I haven't looked a whole bunch but one recipe caught my eye -Chicken Rice a Roni- because my kids think it is such a treat when it is on sale and I make it. I am adding the recipe here on my post and will try it later this week. Right now I have sick kids (2 so far, but with 5 I am sure it won't stop there!) so I am not going to try any new recipes.

  • 3/4 cup long grain brown or white rice
  • 1/4 cup broken spaghetti (or just use more rice)
  • 1 tablespoon dry onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning or thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dry parsley
  • 3 chicken flavored bouillon cubes or 1 tablespoon powdered bouillon

Combine the rice and all of the other ingredients in a resealable plastic container. I like to use zip-lock bags. Label and Seal and the container. Store on the pantry shelf. This is enough for 1 package of mix. Make several at a time for the most conveneince.

To Prepare:

  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 package of Chicken Style Rice & Roni Mix
  • 2-1/2 cups water

In a 2-quart saucepan combine the margarine, Rice Mix and water. Bring the mixture to a boil. Place a lid on the pot. Reduce the heat to the lowest possible flame. Simmer, covered until done or for about 45 minutes for brown rice or 20 minutes for white rice. Serve hot.

A $1061 President's Day

Let me explain....Rick, and I and his cousin Tiffani organized a volleyball tournament to raise money for JoAnn's Relay for Life team. We had 15 teams!!! Games started @ 9 am and finished up around 9 pm. It was an exhausting but rewarding day.
The girls had a bake sale that went over great and Jennylin (my awesome t-shirt making sis) found us a great design for t shirts to sale. It was a great day and when it was all said and done we added $1061 to the donation fund we set up when Joann passed away.
